School Initiatives
Coaches
In partnership with The City Centre Education Project and Jasper Place & Alberta Mental Health Capacity Building Pilot Initiative, our school based services provides coaches (Success Coach and Aboriginal Commitment Coach) who work with individual youth to build a healthier sense of self, awareness of capabilities, and experience a successful school placement. Coaches work in school settings and the community building therapeutic relationships through the process of role modeling, mentoring, supporting and advocating.
Program Goals:
- Increase youth’s view of a healthy education
- Increase youth’s opportunities for healthy peer interaction
- Increase youth’s relationships/attachments with their school and natural support system
- Increase youth’s skills in the following areas: healthy boundaries and sexuality, social interactions, academic ability, communication and problem solving, anger management
- Increase Aboriginal youth’s awareness of their cultural background
- Increase youth’s resiliency capacity in order to eliminate educational barriers
- Increase youth’s ability to make healthy lifestyle choices/positive decision making
- Increase youth’s awareness of community resources/activities
